My name is Ida Ansell, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor practicing in New Orleans, LA. I offer an in-depth approach to therapy where we work together to explore the areas of your life and identity in which you struggle. In order to build this type of relationship, I will provide you with a culturally sensitive, open, and accepting environment that enables exploration of experience, being, and consciousness. My area of focus includes but is not limited to: inter & intrapersonal conflict, racial & gender identity, sexuality, and complex trauma.
I integrate Internal Family Systems (IFS) practices to a psychodynamic orientation which are perspectives that believe the emotional responses that keep us stuck developed during childhood as a way to protect the self from what was too overwhelming, intolerable, or unmanageable. IFS externalizes these behaviors and coping strategies into separate parts or sub-personalities within an internal system which allows us to compassionately interact with them in the therapy room. As self-compassion builds, your innate wisdom unlocks and enables you to step into your integrity & find inner peace.
I have experience working with clients who struggle with addiction, depression & anxiety, relationship & attachment issues, men's issues, LGBTQ+ issues, grief, and trauma. I also offer coaching and consulting for individuals and professionals who are exploring their racial identity, navigating the cultural dynamics that shape their work, and seeking to engage in more authentic and compassionate communication. My approach emphasizes curiosity, integrity, and a commitment to understanding how intersecting identities and systemic forces impact how we show up in relationship with ourselves, others, and the world.
